A Listening List of Stephen King on Audio
Below, you'll find a woefully incomplete list of Stephen King audio titles. Bibliographic information on audiobooks is spotty at best and nonexistent at worst, especially on early books or those available only through libraries. Many early Stephen King books were recorded by amateur readers for the Library of Congress; only much later were some of these books re-recorded professionally for commercial purposes. Still more books were recorded specifically for blind or sight-impaired people, even while a commercial version of the audiobook existed. What results is a paradoxical problem: too many audiobooks on one hand, too little information on the other. While attempting to track down and catalogue every Stephen King novel, story, and nonfiction piece ever dedicated to audio is a worthy pursuit, I’ve decided on a more streamlined approach.
This Listening List provides information on the first appearance of each work on audio, as well as the most recent – usually in-print – version. Often these versions are one and the same. Each entry lists the narrator (or narrators) involved and the year of production. More specific information – like whether the recording won awards, was a Library of Congress project, or is not a commercially available title – is also noted. Every title listed is unabridged unless otherwise noted. Happy listening!
